Anchoring

Solid Bar Anchors

solid bar tie back anchor.jpgTrench Control can install anchor and tieback systems that provide added stability on geotechnical and remedial projects. In instances where additional support is required for retaining walls, deep excavations, abutments, structures and other support systems, these grouted anchors offer an effective reinforcement.

Tiebacks are designed with many different factors in mind. Anchor size and length may vary depending on existing soil content and conditions, wall thickness, depth of the structure to be stabilized, present and potential vertical or lateral loads, and excavation depth to be obtained. All anchors are locked off and tested to insure performance levels that meet or exceed specifications.

Anchored shoring systems are primarily two types:

  • Stressed anchors (tiebacks) – Composed of high strength steel bars or strands grouted into drilled holes.
  • Passive unstressed anchors – Tie rods with concrete deadmen or anchor piles. (These structures normally experience more movement than tied back systems and are not suitable as shoring protection for adjacent structures or utilities).

The stressed anchor (tieback) is a favorable choice where access is limited on the opposing side of the structure to be secured. The anchors are often used in combination with wall systems that we install such as secant pile, soldier pile, and sheet piles. The tiebacks are placed with limited disruption to the surrounding soil and, after curing, inhibit wall movement associated with vertical and lateral force.
