Councils Choose Trench Control for Vertishore Equipment
NAAS, IRELAND, (Sept 12th, 2011) – Trench Control, the leading piling contractor and supplier of ground support equipment, has been selected by several councils across Ireland to supply Vertishore trench support equipment for use in shallow trenches and, in particular, water main repairs.
Councils Facing New Challenges in Safety
Due to changes in Health & Safety regulations in 2010, all excavations regardless of depth need to be suitably supported to ensure the safety of those working in the excavation. The requirement for trench support equipment is determined by the ground conditions, location and size of the excavation.
These new regulations have had a direct effect on many council water services departments, where maintenance and repairs take place daily within small excavations of approx 1m-2m deep and only 1m wide. To support such excavations a two man crew would have to prepare the excavation, install support equipment and carry out the repairs.
This was a major problem, as the new regulations required trench support in almost every case. Traditionally, this would lead to the use of heavy machinery to install trench sheeting and / or trench boxes.
The Solution - Vertishore
At this point Trench Control approached the council engineers and proposed the use of the Vertishore system. Vertishore is a lightweight compact vertical shoring unit designed for use in ground conditions which do not require trench sheeting.
Vertishore units are easily transported and can be quickly installed by one man from outside the excavation within seconds of the trench being dug. The interconnected aluminium hydraulic cylinders are pressurised with water and oil mixture by a single reliable hand pump.
Standard vertical rails are available in lengths from 0.6m to 2.1m and can be expanded from 450mm to 1600mm depending on cylinder choice. Vertishore feature lightweight, high-yield aluminium alloy construction for portability and exceptional strength.
Ease of Use and Speed of Installation
Trench Control provided Vertishore units to councils on hire for a trail period plus on-site training demonstrations. Once the ease of use and speed of installation could be seen firsthand it was a quick decision by the councils involved to adopt the use of the Vertishore system.
Trench Control are continuing to provide the Vertishore system to more councils and also on-site training in the use of the equipment. Further information on equipment and training demos can be received by contacting Colm Smyth on 086 3603460 or emailing
