SIAC Select Trench Control for ‘LIVE’ Roundabout Sheet Piling on €60m Cork Flyover Project
NAAS, IRELAND, (Oct 18th, 2011) – Trench Control, the leading piling contractor and supplier of ground support equipment, has been selected by SIAC Construction to install Sheet Piling as part of the €60m Cork Flyover Project on the N25 ring road on the outskirts of Cork City.
The Cork Flyover Project
A Two-Year €60 million construction project to build two flyovers on the N25 south ring road in Cork is being completed by SIAC Construction with Trench Control acting as a subcontractor on elements of the piling contract.
The two flyovers, being built over the Sarsfield and Bandon Road roundabouts on the western approach to the city, will make the N25 free-flowing from the Dublin road to the Killarney road on the west side of the city.
'LIVE' Traffic Flows Present a Challenge
To enable the installation of the flyovers, suitable support structures needed to be installed in an area that was still being used by LIVE traffic.The project required the accurate installation of sheet piles within one meter of vehicles using the roundabout.
Trench Control was called in to design an installation method and deliver a safe working environment for the contractor. It was also important to ensure the safety of vehicles using the roundabout and that the road was being supported to avoid cracking of the road surface.
The Solution – Trench Control Leader Rig
After reviewing the ground investigation information and the sheet pile design, Trench Control proposed that one of their Leader Rigs would provide the accuracy in installation and the safety of workers and road users alike. This installation method is one of a number of piling and anchoring solutions provided by Trench Control and the high level of onsite engineering expertise was key to SIAC Construction making the decision to use Trench Control.
Trench Control in Action
Trench Control provided a programme of works and within 24 hours of agreeing the contract were onsite to start work. The speed of Trench Controls mobilisation and installation of the sheet piles shows the ability of Trench Control to understand the demands placed on our clients and to react accordingly.
Trench Control will continue to work with SIAC Construction when required on further piling elements of this project and will further ensure the safety of all concerned as they deliver 30 years of engineering expertise along with a high level of onsite technical ability.
